Scooter Clamps

Scooter clamps / Standard vs. oversized

See clamps

Stunt scooter clamps come in two sizes: standard and oversized, named after the bar diameter they grip.

Standard clamps fit standard steel bars with an outside diameter of about 32 mm. Most aluminum bars have a 35 mm outer diameter and need an oversized clamp instead.

Oversized clamps fit HIC bars with an outside diameter of about 35 mm. They also fit aluminum bars with the same outer diameter.

Some oversized clamps include a shim so you can run a standard 32 mm bar. Without the shim, they are meant for oversized bars only.

Scooter clamps / Shims

Shims are often used with SCS clamps to make them work with both standard and oversized bars. With the shim installed, the clamp fits a standard bar. Without it, the clamp fits an oversized bar.

This works especially well with SCS compression: the downtube sits on top of the SCS rather than being squeezed through a slit (HIC/IHC) or needing a star nut (ICS).

Scooter clamps / Height of the clamp

Clamps also come in different heights. Height matters because it must match the slit in your bar’s downtube. The clamp grips the slit area to hold the downtube on the fork.

If the slit is shorter than the clamp, the top of the clamp presses against solid bar above the slit. That can stop the clamp from tightening properly and cause it to loosen again and again.
